Aboard the Ship

At Ushuaia, Argentina, on February 16, we will board our ship, Plancius, and get settled in. We depart that afternoon for the Falkland Islands as we make our way to Antarctica. The ice-strengthened motor vessel Plancius is 293 feet long, displaces 3,211 tons, and carries a maximum of 108 passengers. The vessel is Dutch; the crew is Russian; the galley staff is Filipino. All meals aboard are included in the trip.

Scouts will room in “quad” (4-person) cabins. Space in the cabin will be at a premium. Each Scout will have a small closet, a drawer, and a bunk. (There are two lower bunks, and two upper bunks). In addition to personal gear, each Scout will be issued two lifejackets, and the boots they will wear during shore excursions. Pack carefully! Each Scout will be limited to a single duffle bag as checked luggage. There will be no mixed-gender cabins; however, depending on registration, we cannot guarantee that all youth in a cabin will be within two years of age.
