Hiking on Glaciers

On past expeditions, Scouts had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of hiking across Antarctic glaciers — walking on ancient ice in one of the most remote and untouched places on the planet. With crampons crunching beneath our boots, we followed expert guides across snow-covered ridgelines and frozen hills, surrounded by towering peaks and vast, glittering fields of ice. From these high vantage points, we looked out over a surreal landscape: jagged icebergs drifting silently through deep blue waters, pods of whales surfacing in the distance, and rocky islands emerging from the frozen sea.

The views were absolutely breathtaking — 360 degrees of pristine wilderness, with nothing but snow, sky, and ocean as far as the eye could see. For many Scouts, standing atop a glacier in Antarctica was a moment of awe and reflection, a chance to feel truly connected to the planet and to the spirit of exploration. We expect to return to the ice once again, and give a new group of Scouts the chance to stand where few others ever have, at the bottom of the world.
