Camping in Antarctica
Camping on the Antarctic Peninsula is an adventure like no other — an unforgettable night spent in the most remote and pristine environment on Earth. With no tents, just bivy sacks and thermal sleeping bags, we’ll dig into the snow and settle in under the polar sky, surrounded by a silence so complete it feels otherworldly. Icebergs drift silently offshore, penguins may call in the distance, and if we’re lucky, we might hear the deep, echoing crack of a calving glacier. There are no lights, no buildings, no distractions — just us, the snow, and the vastness of Antarctica. It’s a raw, humbling, and deeply moving experience that few ever get to have, and one we’ll never forget.
And if you're lucky, this once-in-a-lifetime experience might even count toward your Camping merit badge. In 2021, one of the Scouts on our expedition completed her 20th night of camping right here on the ice — and earned her Camping merit badge that very night. How special is that? To achieve such a milestone under the Antarctic sky is the kind of story you’ll tell for the rest of your life.
There’s no need to bring your own camping gear — we’ve got you covered. We’ll provide everything you need for a safe and comfortable night on the ice, including high-quality sleeping bags, insulated pads, bivy sacks, shovels, and other specialized gear designed for polar conditions. While temperatures may dip between 15°–25°F, you’ll be snug and secure in the cozy cocoon of gear provided. With the right layers and a sense of adventure, you’ll stay warm, dry, and ready to enjoy one of the most unique camping experiences on the planet.
We are pleased to announce that the camping fees have been underwritten for all Scouts with a generous grant from Blue71.
