Los Angeles to Buenos Aires
You’ve been packing and repacking your bags for six months in anticipation. At long last the awaited day arrives, and you and your Scouting companions — some, longtime friends; others, brand-new acquaintances — board a jet plane to Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the adventure of a lifetime. The flight is approximately 12 hours long and covers a distance of over 6,000 miles — greater than the distance from Honolulu to New York City. Buenos Aires is four time zones ahead of Los Angeles.
We will spend one night in Buenos Aires. During this layover we will see some of the sights unique to this vibrant city. Past expeditions have walked through an opera house converted into an enormous bookstore, wandered through a zoo where the animals run free on the grounds, met with Argentine Scouts, and visited the grave of Eva Peron. Who knows what adventures await the coming expedition members?
From Buenos Aires we fly to Ushuaia, the southernmost city on the world. We will spend two nights here, exploring life in this outpost community. We expect to go hiking in Tierra del Fuego National Park, visit the naval museum, and enjoy the local cuisine. On the third day, we will board our vessel, bound for Antarctica.
